At Umbrellabird Lodge in the Buenaventura Reserve of El Oro province, you experience outstanding bird diversity, including iconic species such as the Long-wattled Umbrellabird and the El Oro Parakeet. Located in Loja, Urraca Lodge in the Jorupe Reserve allows you to explore a unique dry forest dominated by towering ceibo trees. Nestled in the Zamora Chinchipe province, Casa Simpson in the Tapichalaca Reserve is your starting point to see the emblematic Jocotoco Antpitta, a bird whose discovery led to the establishment of our organization. Further north, also located in Zamora Chinchipe, Copalinga Lodge offers trails rich in orchids and hummingbirds. Finally, the Chocó Lodge in the Canandé Reserve, in the Esmeraldas province, reveals a tropical rainforest home to the Brown-headed Spider Monkey, considered to be one of the 25 most threatened primates in the world. If you’re very lucky, you might also see Giant Anteater and Great Curassow.
Beyond the lodges, Jocotours offers carefully designed day-visit sites near Quito. Café del Zamarrito, in the Yanacocha Reserve, offers a quiet setting high above Quito where you will be surrounded by colorful tanagers, large hummingbirds, and rare Polylepis forest, with easy trails suitable for children. Casa Antisanilla, in the Chakana Reserve, provides access to the páramo ecosystem, where you have one of the best chances to find the Spectacled Bears. It is also the best place in Ecuador to see the Andean Condor in flight.
